One question on everyone’s lips is “why is Africa so backward despite abundance of human and natural resources”. Though we claim to be free from our colonial masters, we are still in shackles of corruption, illiteracy, nepotism, religious and ethnic wars, materialism, bad/myopic dictators that we call leaders and above all mental slavery amongst other things.

There’s a sleeping giant within each and every one of us that needs to be woken. You and i make up Africa and without us, Africa is nothing but a land mass. This is a call to all proud Africans ARISE COMRADES AND LETS TAKE THIS GREAT CONTINENT TO THE PROMISE LAND.

Event: EMUfest 2012 Call for Artist Proposals/Nominations

Artist applications are now being accepted for the 2012 edition of EniObanke Music Festival (EMUfest).

Individual artists or groups wishing to perform at the festival (or their representatives) can now send an e-mail to eniobanke@gmail.com including: details/bio of the artist/band; links to the music, videos or website; and contact details such as e-mail and phone number.

Artists/bands chosen to perform at EMUfest 2012 will be contacted by e-mail and SMS by October 15. The festival takes place November 13-18 in several locations in Nigeria.

Video: Lánre - Má Gbàgbé

Fresh from being playlisted on the award-winning BBC 6 Music and selected to be on Lufthansa Airline’s Sounds of Africa playlist, British Nigerian singer, songwriter and musician LÁNRE debuts the brand new music video for her latest single “Má Gbàgbé” which is taken from her critically acclaimed debut solo album Pen Voyage Chapter One: Singing for Change.

Already highlighted as a favourite among several tastemakers such as Uche Uchendu (TKIAP, BBC 1 Xtra) and Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music), the Goz-i-am-produced “Má Gbàgbé” is an excellently-crafted Folk/Soul opus - laced with acoustic guitar and bass arrangements, lush percussions and powerful lyrics - that is set to capture the hearts and minds of many African listeners and critics alike.

Shot and directed by Olan Collardy with a fine and emotive display from Lánre who is in glorious form as she performs a rousing rendition of “Má Gbàgbé” with her acoustic guitar, the beautifully-crafted music video superbly captures the poignant and reflective nature of the excellent traveller’s song and sees Lánre pay homage to a lesson she learnt from her grandfather of “the importance of staying true to your core values and who you are regardless of where you find yourself”.
